Lunch, Lunch, Lunch.....

For the past few days, I have been quite busy and couldn't find the time to cook lunch. Only yesterday I started cooking again. Having sent Mysarah to school at 6.45am, in the dark of January mornings (it usually is dark at this hour in January, no?...), I headed straight to the market. If you're looking for fresh seafood, this is the time when the fishmongers start unloading the best catch for the day.

Well, it has been awhile too I have not blogged about my cooking. So, let's see what Lili has cooked...

I had these yesterday:

 Masak Lemak Udang bernenas...
hmm...lama dah tak masak atau makan ni...
Punyalah sedap, makan sambil menangis!
Siapa suka masakan ni sila angkat tangan, ye...
Wahaha!

  ...and the complete lunch set...
sambal ikan and stir-fried string beans and cabbage

Today's lunch is a bit elaborate. I wanted to use up a little leftover of basmati rice that I bought during the last Raya Haji, so masaklah nasi tomato....favourite Mysarah. Beras basmati campur sikit dengan beras siam... hehe! So, tak dapat texture sebutir-butir panjang-panjang ....tapi percayalah, sedap all the same! Hikhik)))

Dalca udang....walaupong kan, I tak makan udang

Ayam Ros...apsal nama ayam tu Ros, hah?
Recipenya main campak-campak...
Ayam digoreng masak tapi jangan garing...
Rempah tumisnya: Cili giling, rempah kari daging sikit, rempah korma
sikit, serbuk jintan manis, bawang merah, bwg putih n halia.
Add tomato paste, H*inz tomato soup,
and susu cair...seasoned with salt and sugar...
Onion rings and fresh mints to finish off...
Salad timun and tauhu with sambal kacang sauce...
eee, rasa lapor balik!

My pinggan of nasi tomato letak shredded carrots lagi!
Apsal tak nampak carrot nya?
Actually, dah tergigit sikit tauhu tu baru tingat nak amik gambar... :-)

Okay, that's about all for now....

Have a nice weekend, y'all!

Lots of love,
Lili

Jom Makan E.T.!

I was everywhere today... As usual, Sunday morning breakfast with hubby at our favourite Taman Tun food-court, overlooking the sea lagi! I was famished sebab malam tadi tak makan nasi. Bangun pagi ni, macam hape jer lapornye! So, pekena nasi lemak. But before that we went marketing first. I only bought some essential things for my cooking tomorrow. Sunday, memang jarang masak. Kalau masak tu maknanya I nak makan lauk-pauk style Perak. Kat sini mana ada jual gulai tempoyak ikan sungai, ataupun gulai lemak cili api nangka muda, atau sambal nyiur berupah...uish, kecur air-liur sebut-sebut masakan ni!

Lunch was nasi again, for me, that is. Nampak jer kecik I ni...bab makan - laju! Tapikan, I makan bila lapar sesangat. I'm that type, cepat lapar, cepat kenyang. Thus, I take my meals many times but in small portions. Oh, just so you know, I had my gall-bladder removed years ago, when I was twenty-nine! That could be the reason... hikhik!

Now, where was I? Yes, after lunch it was grocery shopping and we were back home at almost three.

And then kan, this evening, I buat snack that I saw at adik Hana's blog and also at  adik Ayu's blog.
Thanks ye, adik-adik yang pandai masak ni. I already have all the ingredients needed so, I just whipped up! Kalau ada nak cuba, buatlah... memang sedap. Just get the recipe from their blogs, okay. As for me, I main bancuh jer ikut tangan I...hehe...benda semua ada and as always, I cook without a recipe - just the ingredients needed. But thank you so much, Hana and Ayu, for giving me the idea of using these two mushrooms. Next time, I will try the white jade mushrooms...

Here they are... Spicy Cheese Enoki mushrooms. And yes, I used grated cheese. It was sedap! ;-)

If you look closely, my spicy mushrooms resemble a lot like E.T. Hahahaha)))  Takpe, nampak tak cantik, dah makan, cantik!

Jemput makan...

For the Love Of Noodles! (TTBB)!

My no fuss lunch today...

I love noodles. And love them any way they are cooked. Only last week, I had Laksa Johor, and today nothing beats this equally refreshing curry mee.

The ingredients for the gravy is simple, yet, I still couldn't find one good bowl around my area. Try eating them in Ipoh, and you can never go wrong.... even the road-side hawkers cater better ones than what I found in this town. In fact not many people here prefer curry mee - the Malays, I mean. Living near the sea where seafood are abundant, I guess, mee udang takes pride in most Penangites.

School's out and it is all the reason for me to start cracking my head for varieties in my everyday cooking. Soon, I'll be 'baby-sitting' a couple of nieces and a nephew at my house .... well, it's time to draw the menu! But I'm loving it! ;-)

*TTBB = Tajuk tak boleh blah! ;p

Tea Treats

Yeah, you got it right... I too have been bitten by the 'orange-cake-baking-bug'! It seems that most blogs I visited last month had come out with this simple yet gorgeous cake. Credits were given from one cook to another. And my thanks to friends Shidah Sizuka and Somuffins CS for inspiring me to bake again! I have been lazy to bring out the baking utensils for months now...hehe... my very lame reason for reasons!

To tell you the truth, I had been baking this cake before... numerous times, but had no inkling it was a Sicilian Orange cake. My version has always been that humble Orange cake! But there is no harm to go with the flow, considering the comfort, cakes are to our palate. And not to mention, the joy of baking...

Lets have tea! ;-)

Night At Auto-City...

This week has been quite a hectic one when the hubby came up with this silly idea of 'jalan-jalan cari makan'. "Bagi mummy berselera makan semula!" was what he quoted! We ate outside a lot since I started picking up on makan-makan again. So much for manja-manja! Sheeshhh!

Last night we had dinner at a new eating place in Perai, some place called Bangkok Station. The usual Thai fare of Siakap Tiga Rasa, mixed vege, kerabu mangga and tomyam; a so-so rating to my liking...Well, give me Thai food at Siriwan - anytime! Since I was famished, no photos of the food were taken. But I have some pictures of our dinner at Pen-Mutiara a few nights ago... I know you'd be drooling.... :))

Kari Kepala Ikan in a wok

Sotong goreng tepung

So after dinner last night, we went to Juru Auto-City. This is a hip and happening (heh pening!) place to dine and shop. Since dinner was a hearty one, we obviously came here to window-shop. It was MyC's idea and she, as usual had something in mind to buy.

Over all, it was an enjoyable night out - something I have not been doing for a long time! At Juru Auto-City, (where you can find fleets of luxury cars for sale!), this shopping area is also dubbed as Shops in the Park. A very good concept for family outing...

The one shop selling designer bags...and they're original, mind you!
Got the signal from hubby, - no more Aigner! waaaa))))

 Shop in the Park... fun!

MyC...tak sabar nak shopping!

Have a nice day, y'all! :)

I spare my thoughts for a bit... but let my iftar this evening do the 'talking'! :))

Gulai tulang tumis darat

Kacang panjang goreng a la Kapitan

Air asam sempoi...

My share ... sinful it is! ;p

Good night everyone! Don't forget to sahur....kerana di dalam sahur itu ada pahala...

Of Marketing and ... Oversleeping!

For the past few weeks, I've been going to the market almost everyday. I buy what I wanted to cook for the day and keep only some essential stuff for impromptu cooking, like meat and santan. I like my fish and other seafood fresh, so that is why I buy them everyday. My vegetables have to be fresh too. I have my greens bought every other day. I only stock-up on cabbage, tomatoes, cucumbers, spring onions and chillies. These are very important to me as I can concoct different dishes by using them! ;-)

Well, enough of my marketing history!

Here are my iftar yesterday.... we had Bihun and tauhu goreng. Since it was a Saturday, hubby found his way to the Bazaar Ramadhan and bought two packets of nasi kerabu, otak-otak Kempas and since I have not started making any desserts yet, he also bought some tarts. My butcher sells the otak-otak and tarts, you know! See, I made friends with the people from the market even! Muahahaha!

Tauhu goreng with homemade Thai-style chili sauce
on a bed of lettuce and garnish with julienne cucumber and carrots

...kasi close-up sikit! :))

  Bihun goreng biasa-biasa!

 Tarts from the bazaar ramadhan...sedap
Chef Radzi yang buat! hehe...

It so happened that this morning, at about seven a.m. I fell asleep. And there goes my marketing. :(
Hubby is kind enough...hehe...suggested to me just now, to close my kitchen for today!
We're going over to Penang - oh, not shopping for Raya, mind you, but to buy food at our favourite restaurant. Phew, lega akak!

Okay, gotta go now. I'm going to prepare the ingredients for sahur. Kari telur, how's that sound?
Tata! <3

Third Day of Ramadhan...

I guess what's good to blog about these days would fall on food category! It's easy, fun, and makes people drool, more so during this fasting month. Haha! But it is not my intention to make you guys 'kecur air liur'! I'm putting up photos of my iftar meals for future reference. Uish, ada ka? Ingat library ke hape? :)
Okay, I'll keep my updates short so as not to bore you with my rantings but I do hope you'll enjoy the pictures I paste here...

My 3rd Ramadhan meals...

Bawal goreng curah cili/bawang berkicap
(not to be confused with Ikan masak kicap)

Kerabu air asam perut

 Buncis masak lemak

 Sambal tumis sotong rendam/kembang :-)
(tak tau pasei ape sotong berendam!)
As usual... my plate of nasi campur sendiri!

Don't get me wrong. Not that I'm cooking to feed a batallion...hikhik... Every dish I cook usually yields about just nice for one meal. That is why, I have to cook again at pre-dawn! Muahaha!
For sahur this morning, we had kangkung goreng belacan and telur mata lembu. Tak sempat ambil gambar sebab sedap sangat makan sampai tak hingat!

Bye for now... Selamat beribadat...

I Really Don't Have A Title!

Salam Ramadhan everyone!

I know, it has been days my blog remained silent. I've been busy and, got tired easily too that by the end of the day all I ever saw was my pillows.

We have entered the third day of Ramadhan. Hari pertama sibuknya macam esok nak raya! Actually, I was helping a friend yang sakit. Tolong masakkan bubur nasi, sup sayur campur dan goreng-goreng ikan saja... Bila dah  tiga empat orang kawan gathered kat rumah dia dan tengok dia makan dengan seleranya, yang berpuasa tu gelak-gelak kata sedapnya...walaupun I masak simple macam tu! Hehe!

First day puasa, we had Kari ikan bawal, sayur kobis, ikan goreng and sambal belacan. Lots of fruits for starter and desserts. I don't really fancy kuih-kuih manis. I also made 'sarbat'. You know, rose syrup with lots of spices added. Hubby bought a big packet of 'akar rempah' whatever... I made a big pot and bottled them up  and stocked them for perhaps, a couple of weeks. I'm a lemonade person, so sirap mirap ni, I tak berapa 'masyuk'! Anyway, I had lots of lemonade during my Rejab and Syaaban fasting so I guess what the family wants is what I get... Haha!

Berbuka semalam, buat bubur lemak/ kanji/ bubur lambuk... makan dengan kerabu taugeh kosong, meaning, takde kerang atau perut. Sedap begitu sahaja! hikhik!!

Hmm....dah makan ni, so tak makan nasi ler...

Waktu sahur tadi, baru jumpa nasi. Nasi panas-panas dengan lauk yang I baru dapat recipe from my cousin, whose mother, my aunt lah tu...  is a very good cook.  :)

.... Ayam Malabari

Sambal daging @ Rendang Dinding
which I made on the eve of Ramadhan...
this dish is a must for my family!

This is my share...
walaupun, kan... 'abc'..bak kata CS and Akak! Hikhik!!!

Apa-apa jer lah... sebenarnya malas nak menaip ni... kalau ikut hati nak 'take a break' jugak macam Oldstock and Mamasita. Maybe next time.

Selamat Berbuka!

Jom Masak-masak!

Tengah banyak durian ni, buat tempoyak ler. Lebih mantap buat gulai tempoyak! Dan berlebih-lebihlah 'mantop'nya, dibuat tempoyak masak. Hehehe!

Bahan-bahan untuk tempoyak masak, semestinya tempoyak
bawang kecil, serai dan daun kunyit: semua dihiris halus,
cili merah ditumbuk, cili padi dihiris (my version),
segenggam ikan bilis, air dan garam secukupnya.
sedikit gula kalau tempoyak lama.
Kacau atas api perlahan...sampai tua masak!
Senang, tahan lama dan gerenti SEDAP

Hmm... well... what is tempoyak masak without the accompaniment of petai and timun! Masa inilah timun dapat tenyeh durian!!! :-D

Birthday? Just Another Day!

Birthdays are like any other days. Masak, tetap masak! I still fast on my birthday recently. And here's my iftar that day....

Nasi Lemak tak ada yang special!

Jemput jamu mata, ye!

Yesterday was a public holiday in Penang. It was indeed, a very beautiful day. The weather was fine with a slight rain; and when the sun was out it did not scorch us like a few months back. We had lunch at Kristal Point, Penang and later did some shopping at Queensbay.  Let these pictures do the talking lah... I malas nak talk talk!

Sweet and sour fish fillet...

Chicken Green Curry... too creamy for my liking...

Garlic & Pepper Beef... sedap weh... and there's also
Sayur campur, kerabu mango, hot-plate tofu and
seafood tom yam....

and last but not least.... desserts (on the house lagi...! :-D almaklumlah, tauke kawan kitaorang! )

Then, off to Queensbay... jauh ler pulok parking nya...
jenuh menapak but at least burned up the extra
calories we'd tucked in at lunch!

I love the sea fronting Queensbay....
...with Pulau Jerejak in view

Bye for now.... <3
